The Middle Market Employer Deserves Better. We Built The Platform.
Over a decade of results that the status quo can’t explain—and can’t ignore.
We Didn’t Set Out To Build A Middle Market Health Insurance Platform.
Our objective was to fix a problem for our clients.

Mark Gaunya has spent almost four decades in the healthcare and employee benefits industry—and from day one, he saw the same problem playing out for middle market employers everywhere. Year after year, health insurance costs went up with no data to justify those increases—frustrating CFO and HR professionals. Control was almost non-existent. And the people caught in the middle are the employees and their families who see more money being taken out of their paychecks, higher out of pocket costs in their plan designs or a new health insurance ID card from another carrier—creating friction for people when they needed healthcare the most.
“Health insurance is expensive because healthcare is expensive.™” ~Mark Gaunya
The health insurance system keeps you in the dark—and there is no correlation between quality, price and outcomes. The healthcare system was designed for the rule-markers that created it—not for the people inside it. That’s exactly the problem Mark set out to solve—and it is the source of his professional passion.
More Than An Insurance Broker
Almost everyone has an insurance broker box in their head and believe the role of a broker is to just quote and sell insurance. The truth is that is only one facet of their job if they are doing it right. The right broker serves you, and uses creativity and innovation to help hold the healthcare system accountable—and find a better way.
As Founder and CEO of Captivated Health and Principal at Borislow Insurance, one of New England’s most respected employee benefits brokerage and consulting firms founded by his business partner Jennifer Borislow in 1982—Mark Gaunya partnered with Jennifer to build something different: a brokerage and consulting firm that exists to serve the employer and solve problems—not carriers, not large hospital systems, not PBMs, not the status quo. His role as a visionary has always been to find new ways to overcome the industry’s most entrenched challenges and put the control back where it belongs—with the employer and their employees.
With over 35 years of experience sitting in every seat at the healthcare table—providers, carriers, employers and consumers—Mark brings a unique perspective not shared by most brokers. That perspective is what makes The Captivated Health Platform different because it was designed for the middle market employer and the healthcare consumer.

In 2014, conviction became action.
When the Affordable Care Act became law in 2010 and threatened to dismantle the group purchasing model of three large private school consortiums in New England in 2014, Mark leaned into his creativity and innovative mindset and built a solution with this team and their strategic partners.
Starting with just 10 Northern New England schools, Captivated Health established a self-governed, partially self-insured captive platform that created scale and leverage, gave the private schools access to their own claims data, the ability to customize their plan designs, and the community infrastructure to make it all sustainable. Schools that had been at the mercy of the health insurance system suddenly had something they’d never had before —control of their health insurance future.
Today, Captivated Health serves 30+ private schools across 7 states and growing. What began as a solution for private schools has evolved into something much bigger. The Captivated Health Platform now serves other industries with like-minded organizations and affiliate groups who share the same belief—middle market employers deserve better than the healthcare system’s default. The platform was built for schools first, but the problem it solves isn’t unique to education. It’s a universal challenge for all middle market employers.
The healthcare system wasn’t built for you. Captivated Health was built in collaboration with you.

This isn’t theory. It’s over a decade of proof.

“Our relentless commitment is to make healthcare easier and more affordable for people.”
— Mark Gaunya, Founder & CEO, Captivated Health
In September 2025, Mark authored his fifth book Captivated Health—a message of hope to every business owner, CFO, and HR leader who has reluctantly accepted rising health insurance costs as inevitable. He co-authored his first book Bend the Healthcare Trend with this business partner Jennifer in 2009. Their message is clear: you are not a victim of the current system. You have more control over the outcome than you think—and it doesn’t take as much work as you’d expect—the most common misperception.
The reward? Healthier and more productive employees. High quality healthcare at the lowest possible price. A more affordable, sustainable health insurance plan—and the accumulation of dollars back on your balance sheet.
Mark’s professional mission has never wavered. What started as a promise to a group of New England private schools has grown into a movement—one that is expanding the reach to every middle market employer ready to stop accepting the “less bad renewal”—the status quo.
Captivated Health exists because middle market employers and their people deserve better—and because someone finally decided to do something about it.
And more help is on the way—this is just getting started.
